my favorite pair of jeans is from oldnavy.
long live mall brands!
I was sitting in Ranger Station’s Monday morning rundown meeting this week, and one of my coworkers bragged to the team that he got some amazing stuff from Oldnavy. There I sat next to him, in my Oldnavy jeans, which I obviously got up and modeled for everyone in the conference room.
Our team is way cooler than me, and so on top of their fashion game. They were all agreeing that they’d had some great finds recently at the mall brands - J. Crew, Gap, Oldnavy, Banana Republic. And I couldn’t agree more. While not everything is a hit, if you know what you’re looking for, you cannot get better quality for the price.
The Jeans
After I had my second baby, I wanted a new pair of jeans. And I was willing to pay for a pair that brought me back to life. I went everywhere, I tried on every brand, and I just couldn’t find and denim that felt worth it to me. But when I was placing an order for kids clothing, I pulled a hail mary and threw these into my cart.
I tried on a lot of denim to find some that I liked this much. They’re full length, so they work with heels and then I usually cuff them when I wear flats. The denim has a stretch to it (life’s too short for uncomfortable jeans), but it looks like a non-stretch. They’re fitted, they’re flattering, and they’re $36. (I take a size down in these.)
Oldnavy denim, sweater is older from Banana Republic (here’s the newer version), Doen flats
The Shirt
While we’re talking about mall brands, this shirt has been a workhorse in my weekend wardrobe. I bought it at 50% off so it was $12. It’s cotton, it’s a classic style, and feels more elevated than a graphic tee. (I took one size up in this, would go 2x up for shrinkage!)
Oldnavy shirt, Zadig & Voltaire cashmere sweater (old - here’s an alt), COS pull on denim, Vince flats (these are cooler)
The Dress
I have a few shirt dresses like this in my closet, and I always throw them on when I’m at a loss for what to wear. I love that this one is super flowy (aka forgiving), and the slits keep it from being too tent-like. It’s so basic and easy, but some good accessories can take this dress a long way.
Oldnavy dress, Tecovas boots (SO GOOD), Le Specs sunglasses, Zara necklace (here’s an option!)
The Sweaters
Last and certainly not least, my absolute favorite things in my closet right now - cotton sweaters from Gap. Amazingly, I have 0 pictures in them, but I own all of these pictured. I love the boyfriend sweater in red with my slouchy jeans, and I wear the cardigan both button up as a top or open over workout clothes. The v-neck is cropped and super cool, and I love throwing a stripe on to mix things up. They are higher quality than some of my more expensive sweaters, and they don’t feel too precious because I paid less than $30 for some of them.
Striped roll neck sweater, V-neck sweater, Oversized boyfriend sweater, Cardigan
Clearly, higher price does not always equal higher quality. Mall brands forever!
