out with the old, in with the FUN!
Lately, I look at my closet and am absolutely frozen. What do I wear? Why is this all so boring? Nothing goes together. Does this even fit me??
The absolute worst.
I started going through my wardrobe, selling the things that I’m not wearing, and reinvesting the money I’m making into some things that I’m hoping will freshen things up.
What I’m getting rid of:
Clothing that is uncomfortable. No matter how pretty it is, I am 10/10 going to go for something that feels good on my skin. Same goes for shoes!
Bad fabrics. This is a big one for me. I always try to go for natural fibers (cotton and silk are my favorites, wool and cashmere are kinda fussy to me). Other fibers like polyester and acrylic are actually just made of plastic. They often look cheap, feel uncomfortable, and they aren’t breathable. (We’ll dive into this more later! You don’t have to spend a lot to get quality fabrics.)
Weird colors and patterns that I pretended would work for me. I have this peplum top in my closet in a wild purple pattern. I tried to be “fun” and the reality is I could not care less about purple, peplum, or paisley (it’s bad). See ya!
Things that don’t fit well. It’s gotta be comfortable and flattering or it’s gone!
Items that are worn out (holes, stains, etc).
Getting rid of the things that don’t work for me anymore has left me with…
The Basics
My most worn basics, linked HERE.
Great pieces! So very boring all together! Seeing this made it so clear that the reason I feel frozen is because almost all of my items are basic. And while those classic pieces are important, all together they just read as bland. We gotta add some fun items in there to make it feel personal, and like ME.
What I’m considering adding to my closet…
1.Tote - the massive size and the detail on this make it far from basic. 2. Jacket - I wore something similar over my favorite workout ‘fit the other day and felt like a million bucks. 3. Sunglasses are an easy way to make a look feel more considered. 4. Red cardigan 5. Pants - khaki is classic and make this wrap silhouette feel so easy! (An alt I also love.) 6. Silk camisole - putting this under blazers, leather jackets, cozy cardigans… 7. Gold necklace 8. Beaded necklace 9. Belt 10. Flats
My whole wardrobe can’t consist of silk camis and camo. I still wear jeans and a great tee almost daily. But it’s wild how much a little detail like a fun belt, or a few necklaces, can immediately elevate the look (without a lot of additional thought).
Doesn’t the combo of the two boards feel so much better? It’s not a perfect capsule by any means, but the possibilities are endless.
Cheers to being fun and not basic!
