We just got back from the beach, where it was equal parts delightful and hotter than h*ll. As much as I wanna be that fashion icon mom at the beach, I find myself lugging kids, beach toys, all of my magazines, dripping sweat. Layers of necklaces and sunscreen and cute hats that fly away and fussy outfits just don’t cut it.
This past week, I felt like a kinda nailed it with the things I brought, so I thought I’d share a couple of them.
THE PERFECT BEACH HAT
This beach hat from my June edit was invaluable. The strap kept it from flying away on those breezy beach afternoons! And the rounded brim gave such good coverage on my face, neck, and chest. (Hot tip: I brought a brimless hat in my beach bag for when I was lounging under the umbrella!) Lack of Color, $149
THE LINEN SHIRT
This shirt that Steve was gonna get rid of has become a wardrobe hero. I wore it open over a swim suit, buttoned once with loose linen pants and my trusty hat, or threw it on with denim cut offs (another summer wardrobe hero!) and Birks to grab coffee. His is a size M, I’m normally an XS. The slouchier the linen shirt, the better. J. Crew, on sale for $66.50
A TRUSTY BEACH BAG
Not super exciting, but I bought this bag to carry the beach toys in and it worked perfectly! Super affordable, huge, and easy. Amazon, $14
A MATCHING SHORT SET
A matching short set at the beach is always a win. This shirt and these shorts are similar/affordable/not linen. This linen shirt and these shorts could work beautifully (and are on super sale), or if I were gonna go wild card I’d do this and this.
THE SWIMSUITS
As far as swimsuits - I am struggling here! One swimsuit I’ve had for a very long time gaped open on top and bottom when I leaned over to put on sunscreen. Not cool! I have some other cute ones that I’m constantly pulling on to make sure my butt is covered. Also not cool! After some extensive research, I’ve decided I’m going to invest in one of these that has 1. decent coverage 2. quality fabric and 3. a good cut.
This swimsuit stopped me in my tracks! The washed floral is just.so.pretty. And I love the low back. Toteme, $290
Matteau just released swimwear, and their 90s classic briefs look like my kinda cut. Truly classic, appropriate for most any pool situation. Matteau bottoms, $145 and top, $145
If I trust anybody to make good swimwear, it’s a company that specializes in undies. I’m so into this one piece - the straight neckline will flatter everyone, and the low cut back with a tie that makes the straps adjustable is just perfect. Negative, $160
Negative also makes this classic black bikini. I love that the top isn’t a true tie on triangle situation… this design reads a little more adult. Negative top, $90, and bottoms, $70
A red suit looks good on anyone! This feels like a good mom suit that’s not lame? Left on Friday top, $95, and bottoms, $95
Top the swimsuits off with…
Straw bag, a single cute little necklace, fun sunglasses
Cheers to your summer travel and adventures! I’m coming atcha next week with some dreamyyy July finds.
xx
